Caspar Estate wines express the terroir of our property located in the Rutherford
Appellation. Positioned on the sloping hillsides just above the fog line overlooking
Napa Valley, Caspar Estate has rocky serpentine soils rich in iron and magnesium
that produce a distinct Cabernet Sauvignon with its own character.
2011 was one of the coolest years on record for the Napa Valley and reminded Julien
Fayard of his training in Bordeaux. Throughout the growing season and harvest, he
entertained us with stories of the cool vintages he worked at Lafite that influenced
his vision for our 2011 vintage. We were treated to beautiful tiny clusters for harvest
and produced 180 cases. Our 2011 seduces the senses. Starting with your eyes you will
be mesmerized by dark purple singed with bright red hues on its edges. The nose
draws you in with the comforting smell of well-loved library books, tantalizing you
with wisps of summers past with coffee, and nuances of cocoa and vanilla. On your
palate, you’ll enjoy a perfect balance between structured tannins and fruit with a
long finish that lingers, demanding you savor it completely. Because the 2011 is quite
approachable now, it could be the perfect wine to serve with your holiday meals.
For the optimal experience, we recommend cellaring the 2011 for 3 to 5 years.
